Apakah Pesantren Ketinggalan Jaman Digital

1 komentar

How bloggers make money

How do bloggers make money from blogs?

How-Bloggers-Make-MoneyI’ve been reflecting this week about the amazing diversity of opportunities that are opening up for bloggers to make money from blogging.
I’ve long advised that bloggers seeking to make money from blogging spread their interests across multiple revenue streams so as not to put all their eggs in one basket.
The wonderful thing is that this is becoming easier and easier to do 2005 has seen many options opening up. I thought I’d take a look at some of the methods that bloggers are currently using to make money through blogs.

Income Streams for Bloggers – How to Make Money Blogging

Advertising Programs – Perhaps the most obvious changes in the past few months have been with the addition of a variety of viable advertising options for bloggers looking to make money from their blogs. The most common way bloggers seem to earn money online is via the contextual ad program from Google – Adsense. A more recent addition that many are using successfully are Chitika’s eMiniMalls and WidgetBucks, Text Link Ads.
Azoogle Ads, Intelli Txt, DoubleClick, Tribal Fusion, Adbrite, Clicksor, AdHearUs, Kanoodle, Pheedo, TextAds, Bidvertiser, Fastclick and Value Click (to name just some of the options) and there is a smorgasbord of options. Of course there is more to come with MSN Adcenter and YPN both in beta testing and with a variety of other advertising system currently in development (YPN is only available to US publishers).
Lastly there’s BlogAds – one of the first blog specific ad networks.

RSS Advertising – The past 12 months have seen some advances in RSS Advertising also. I’m yet to hear of any bloggers making big money blogging through it to this point – but as improvements are made to the ad programs exploring this I’m sure we’ll start to see examples of it being profitable.
Sponsorship – In addition to the array of advertising programs that are available to join there is a growing awareness in the business of the value and opportunity that exists for them to advertise directly on blogs. I’m hearing more and more examples of this and have been fortunately to have a couple of ad campaigns of my own in the past month – one with Adobe a couple of weeks ago and another just completed with Ricoh for a new digicam over at my Digital Camera Blog. These are not isolated cases – as I say I know of many blogs exploring sponsorship with advertisers at present and suspect we’ll see more of it in the year ahead. Sponsorship is also happening on a post by post basis with some bloggers being paid to write on certain topics by companies – either in one off or a regular fashion – and they are able to make big money from their blogs doing so.
Affiliate Programs – There are larger affiliate programs like Amazon, Linkshare, Clickbank and Commission Junction but also literally thousands of others from the large to the very small.
Digital Assets – Increasing numbers of bloggers have been developing other digital assets to support and add revenue streams to their blogs. By this I mean that I’m increasingly seeing e-books, courses and tele-seminars being run by bloggers. My recent foray into this with the first series of the six figure blogging course that Andy and I ran a few weeks ago and have just released the study version of. This type of activity will only increase in future – in fact this week I’ve seen numerous examples of bloggers running courses.
Blog Network Opportunities – with the rise in popularity of Blog Networks – bloggers are also being presented with more places to earn an income from their blogging – by writing for and with others. While it might be difficult to get a writing gig with one of the bigger networks – there are plenty who are always asking for new bloggers to join and who are willing to pay bloggers using a variety of payment models. While there are distinct advantages of blogging for yourself – blogging for an established network who will handle a lot of the set up/promotion/admin/SEO etc has it’s advantages also. More and more bloggers are combining writing for themselves on their own blogs with taking on blog network blogs as additional income streams.
Business Blog Writing Opportunities – as blogging has risen in it’s profile as a medium more and more businesses are starting blogs. Many of these companies have internal staff take on blogging duties – but an increasing number of them are hiring specialist bloggers to come on and run their blogs. I know of a number of bloggers who in the past month or two have been approached for such paid work. Check out Bloggers for Hire if you’re looking for this type of work.
Non Blogging Writing Opportunities – Also becoming more common are bloggers being hired to write in non blogging mediums. Manolo’s recent coup of a column in the Washington Post is just one example of this as bloggers are increasingly being approached to write for newspapers, magazines and other non blog websites. Along side this is the rise of bloggers as published book authors – this is to the extent that one blogger I spoke with this week complained to me that they were one of the few bloggers than they knew who didn’t have a book deal!
Donations – Tip Jars and donation buttons have been a part of blogging for years now but this last year saw a number of bloggers go full time after fund raising drives. Perhaps the most high profile of these was Jason Kottke of kottke.org who through the generosity of his readership was able to quit his job and become a full time blogger.
Flipping Blogs – Also more common in 2005 was the practice of ‘Blog Flipping’ – or selling of blogs. This has happened both on an individual blog level (I can think of about 20 blogs that sold this year) but also on a network level (the most obvious of these being the 8 figure sale of Weblogs Inc to AOL).
Merchandising – My recent attempt to sell ProBlogger.net T-shirts wasn’t a raging success, but it is an example of how an increasing number of bloggers are attempting to make a few extra dollars from their blogs by selling branded products through programs like Cafepress. While I didn’t have a lot of success with merchandising – quite a few larger blogs are seeing significant sales – especially blogs with a cult following. I’m not at liberty to discuss details – but I know of one largish blog which will see sales over $20,000 in merchandise for the calendar year of 2005.
Consulting and Speaking – While it has been popular for established consultants to add blogs to their businesses we’re also starting to see bloggers with no consulting background able to make money by charging readers for their time in consulting scenarios BECAUSE of the profile that their blogs have built them. Blogging has the ability to establish people as experts on niche topics and we all know the value of being perceived as an expert. I spoke to one blogger last month who charges himself out at over $200 an hour for speaking and consulting work – his area of expertise was something that he knew little about 18 months ago – but through his blog he’s become a leader in his field and a minor celebrity in his industry.

How to Make a Website of Your Own

How To Build A Great Web Site -- Without Hiring A Web Designer

Article Editor By Carmen Mardiros
Most people who ask me for website making help fall into one of these next categories:
  1. People looking to create a family or hobby website.
  2. People looking to build their first profitable business website.
  3. People looking to create a successful commercial website.
  4. Website designers looking to improve their skills and offerings.
This article is mainly intended for people who want a successful website, but I believe anyone looking to create a website, regardless of purpose, age or skills will come away with invaluable, practical tips.

You're here because you want to make a website, right? I'm a web designer and, if you were to hire me, I would charge anywhere between $1,000 and $3,000 to build a small web site. But this article is about how to make a website for far less. But why would I tell you how you can make websites for less?
If you're like the vast majority of people thinking of building a website, then you don't have a big budget. That alone disqualifies you as a prospect of mine -- it means you can relax, I have no interest in making a pitch. A small budget, though, can still get you a good web site, provided you throw other ingredients in the mix as well. Let's look at available options together.
There is one universal truth in website making: To make a website you need either time or money -- or both. Time and money often substitute each other (you can pay $$$ and have a webiste up and running in 2 weeks or you can save your cash, spend your own time building a website and have it up and running in 2-6 months). How do you find the right balance between time and money? Here's how.
You can get a website by:
Hiring someone to create a website for you Building a website on your own
  • Professional web site design services are outrageously expensive these days.
  • There are cheap designers out there, but the quality of their work is questionable at best.
  • You can avoid paying a fortune to make a website if you are willing to give it a try yourself (see right).
(a) Take the long, time-consuming way of building it "brick-by-brick":
  • This is the #1 reason people shy away from making websites on their own.
  • It involves lots of time -- time needed to acquire the skills and time needed for the actual building. This is time you don't have or, in other words, time that would be better spent elsewhere.
(b) Take shortcuts, use whole "blocks" readily available and learn to put them together:
  • Takes a fraction of the time and is less demanding for people with no technical skills.
  • Ideal for situations where the website is a means to an end. You spend more time using the website and making it work rather than building it.
  • Provides the best balance between time and money.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Read on
I use option (a) but I'm a webmaster, I make a living from building websites. You, on the other hand, are not. You make a living from other activities and a website can, at most, help you do it better.

The Quick And Easy Route

Use A Builder To Create A Web Site

Taking shortcuts means using website builder software for help. These fall into two major categories:
  1. Website builders that only help with the technical side (creating and publishing pages, hosting, domain names, etc). These can be both online and offline, free and paid site builders.
  2. Website builders that also help with the non-technical, human side, the fun side (figuring out what to make the site about, attracting visitors, interacting with people, making money out of it, becoming popular thanks to it -- in essence, making it work).
Now, as a professional designer myself, I wouldn't touch a site builder with a barge -- mainly out of principle. But I do have good reasons not to use them. I can't complain about the free website builders (precisely because they're free) but some of the commercial site makers I've seen make me cringe.
They are complicated to use, redundant, most don't give a website a fighting chance and are ultimately useless. Learning to make a website with these paid site builders is frankly, frustrating and not worth the trouble (or the money). Most of the time, free blogs or free website builders do the job just as well, or even better!
If you need to create a simple website for your family and friends, then free options will work just fine. However, if you plan to sell your products online or attract people to a web site about something you feel passionate about and make it wildly popular, then it's important to look at a website builder that can really help you achieve that (instead of a website that only takes up space).
A few months ago, I came across this website builder and, for once, I was pleasantly surprised. Being a webmaster myself, I am reluctant to saying this, but software like this one could, potentially, turn the webdesigners of today into a dying breed. But I was skeptical at first. Very skeptical. I loathe companies who are quick to make a buck but give you little in return. So I started investigating.
First, I read up on Ken Evoy, the founder of Site Build It. I then researched the tools and information he gives you. I was surprised to see that he follows the same principles I use for all my websites, principles I had often come across scattered around the web, but never put together in such a coherent, easy-to-understand package.
This one paragraph on their website summarizes the basic reality of how people use the web:
'Online, people search for information, look for solutions -- they are not looking for you. Give them what they want by converting your knowledge into high-quality, in-demand CONTENT. To do this, you create a theme-based topical content that ranks high at the Search Engines, attracting free, targeted TRAFFIC... interested, open-to-you visitors.
(I have a paragraph along the same lines printed and posted on my monitor)
Make no mistake about it, SBI isn't a get-rich-quick scheme and investing time, effort and passion are essential. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's something you must consider before settling for any website builder, no matter how good they may seem to be. Here is what makes Site Build It attractive:
  • It's perfect for beginners because it takes the techno-babble away and makes the site-building experience smooth, enjoyable and frustration-free. And if, at any time, you decide to become more technical, the sitebuilder can easily keep up with your newly found skills.
  • Puts the fun back in creating something you can be proud of. In a few months you'll have a popular website, a thriving community or a profitable web business.
  • The SBI community welcomes you among thousands of other beginners eager to learn how to make a website. Their support, advice and motivation will prove invaluable in building your success pixel by pixel.
  • It gives you the tools, motivation, support and above all, the essential intelligence needed to make a website, one that shines for years to come.
  • Good money-back guarantee (they refund you if at any time you change your mind, whenever and whatever the reason -- yes, I know it sounds too good to be true and yes, I did ask them myself).
Bottom line, there's just one problem with Site Build It: it's so much more than a simple website builder (which is probably all you were looking for). It's an entire 'how to make, learn, profit AND have fun' experience, but one that requires time and effort (much more so than money).

How to make your internet connection faster ?

Yaaaaawn...

At-least 10,000 times, since 2000, in last 8 years I have google-d / MSN-ed / Yahoo-ed / Altavisat-ed and all other search engine-ed to find the right answer or tips and tricks or tweaks for the question as how do I make my Internet connection faster ?
No matter what type of connection I use, Dial up, EDGE, ADSL, broadband, cable or any such, I always feel to be slower than usual !!!
Why ??
While searching, I have learned few very important lesson and hard facts which I would like to share with my readers. Some of the facts are not that satisfactory for our mind but what to do, facts are like that.. Most of the time they are hard to believe !!
First and most important is to understanding our own limits
Many of us tends to overlook or simply forget the difference between Kilo Bytes and Kilo Bits. many of us wants to view Windows or our download manager reporting download speeds of 200 kbps+ with a connection in which ISP have promised to offer 256 kbps.
Matter of fact, all of our ISPs advertise their bandwidth in Kilobits per seconds, which is 8 times higher than Kilobytes per second, in which Windows or any other download manager would calculate the file transfer rate.
Meaning, in case of a 256 kbps connection, we are suppose to get 32 kilo bytes per second of download speed.
How do I make my Internet connection faster ?
Here is a hard fact. There are not much what we can do as an end use to make the actual Internet connection faster !!
Why cant I make my connection faster ?
In case of our Internet connection, there are very little control, which, as an end user we have over the allocated bandwidth by our ISP. For example, if I have subscribed to my ISP for a 256 kbps plan, then there is no way to obtain 300 kbps apart from upgrading the plan to a higher one.
Can any software tweak help ?
Most of the application builders try their best to provide their software with best and optimized settings to utilize the maximum available bandwidth, hence there are very little what we can to do squeeze more out of them. However, having said that, few application tends to perform better than others when it comes to using the bandwidth.
Try and use alternate browsers like FireFox / Opera against Internet Explorer. Some users like FireFox over Opera or IE where as many other would prefer to browse with Opera !!! By the way, do you know, Microsoft is coming out with Internet Explorer 8 ? The beta version of IE8 is available for download.
Blah Blah.. Read all that, but I still feel I am slower
Although there are not much we can do in terms of making the connection faster, but there are much can be done to make sure that we don’t waste the available bandwidth.
  • Auto-update of Installed software can run as a background process and eat up your available bandwidth to make your browsing experience slower. So you may turn off the auto-update of installed software and Windows to cut down the bandwidth utilization.
  • While we browse, we should look and stop any background application eating the available bandwidth. So many times I have found my P2P client is running in background, (under taskbar) hiding from my eyes and uploading the Linux distro which I have put on for download the other night.
  • Malware like Virus or a Spyware can always slow you down by utilizing your Internet connection for their own use. Always make sure you are using an up-to-date AntiVirus and AntiSpyware protection to keep the PC free of Virus and Spyware !! Mind you, your Windows comes with a built in AntiSpyware called Windows Defender (Vista or Win 7, in case of WinXP, one can download free)
  • Use of a firewall can help to stop unwanted apps to access the Internet.
  • If you need to download a large file, say about 50 MB or more, always try and use a File Transfer / download manager. There are many free options available, FlashGet / Free Download Manager (FDM) / Internet Download Manager (IDM).

Tutorial Cara Setting Internet Sehat Sekolah Bag.2

1 komentar

(indahnya berbagi Pengetahuan).
